Redemption Prom

Spearheading a social media campaign

Redemption Prom ’24 was born in an Entrepreneurship class taught by Dr. Eric Fretz at the University of Michigan. A team of three other students and I developed this event as our semester-long project for the class, aiming to throw a prom for graduating college seniors, the vast majority of which missed out on their high school prom due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

How to Sell Tickets to College Kids?

I was in charge of making and posting Instagram graphics for our Redemption Prom account. Convincing college kids to pay for a ticket was a challenging proposition, but we had food, a DJ and a dance floor, and a photo booth as selling points.

Plus, all of the event’s profits were donated to Garrett’s Space, a local Ann Arbor organization dedicated to adolescent mental health.

And last but not least, given that the Class of 2024 was almost unanimously of drinking age at the time, we made alcoholic beverages available for purchase for guests… prom with a bit of drunken debauchery.

I hammered all of those points home through our event’s social media campaign, while also weaving in ideas like prom as a canon event, or collecting song requests.

The Results

With that social media campaign combined with the in-person efforts of our whole team, we ended up selling
